How To Overcome Doubt and Keep Moving Towards Your Goals
Share
Doubt is something that shows up for all of us, especially when we are stepping into something new or going after a big goal. It can feel heavy and convincing if you let it take over. In this episode of the She Trusts Herself podcast, I share how I acknowledge doubt, move through it and keep taking action even when it feels uncomfortable.
Why Doubt Shows Up When You Are Growing
Doubt is often a sign that you are about to step out of your comfort zone. It is your mind’s way of saying, “Alert, this feels unfamiliar.” It tries to keep you safe by convincing you to stay where you are. The problem is that staying still means staying stuck.
If I had listened to doubt, I would not have written my books, launched this podcast or spoken at events. Doubt would have convinced me that I was not qualified or that no one would care. Instead, I chose to see doubt as a signpost that I was growing.
How Doubt Tries To Hold You Back
Doubt often shows up as thoughts like:
“Who are you to do this?” “Are you sure you are qualified?” “What if no one listens?”
These thoughts feel real, but they are not facts. They are simply your brain trying to protect you from the unknown. You can acknowledge the thought without acting on it.
Why Taking Action Weakens Doubt
The longer you stay still, the louder doubt becomes. When you take action, even a small step, you create evidence that you are capable. Action helps you outrun doubt because you are proving it wrong in real time.
Doubt also resurfaces at every new level. It showed up when I wrote my manuscripts, when I hired editors and when I published my books. Each time, I had to remind myself why I started and keep going anyway.
Actionable Tips To Overcome Doubt
- Thank the doubt: Acknowledge it as a sign you are growing instead of seeing it as a stop sign.
- Reconnect with your why: Remind yourself why this goal matters to you.
- Take one small action: Movement weakens doubt. Stillness strengthens it.
- Limit comparison: Notice when comparing yourself to others triggers doubt and redirect your focus.
- Allow doubt to exist: You can feel doubt and still take action at the same time.
- Look for evidence: Reflect on past moments where you succeeded despite feeling unsure.
