From Human Doing to Human Being - How to Start Living on Purpose

For years, I lived life on autopilot - doing what I thought I should do, ticking boxes, meeting expectations, and ignoring the voice that said, there’s more for you than this.
It wasn’t until I discovered the world of personal development that my perspective and life began to change.
In Episode 1 of She Trusts Herself podcast, I shared the moment I wrote down a list of goals in a workshop:
“One of the first goals I wrote down without even thinking about it was author.”
I didn't overthink it. I just let myself dream big - without fear or judgement, just honesty. Being honest with yourself is often the first step toward becoming who you’re meant to be.
I didn’t know how to write a book. I didn’t know when it would happen. I just knew I wanted it and for the first time in a long time, I didn’t talk myself out of it.
That’s what shifting from human doing to human being looks like. It’s choosing intention over autopilot. It’s choosing self-awareness over self-abandonment. It’s choosing yourself - even when you don’t have the full plan yet.
Why I Wrote My First Book
When I started my personal development journey, I read more than 50 books in a year. I noticed a pattern. So many of them were written by people who were already wildly successful - people with three-hour morning routines, multi-million dollar empires and endless flexibility.
Meanwhile, I was in an emotionally taxing job, commuting 1.5-2 hours each way and feeling exhausted by the end of it.
I wanted to create something different. Something practical. Something for beginners. Something you could pick up, put down, and return to without guilt.
A book written by someone just a few steps ahead with someone saying, I see you. I’ve been where you are. Here’s what helped me.
Becoming a Human Being
Being a human being means:
- questioning your beliefs
- choosing what actually matters to you
- taking responsibility for your life
- slowing down enough to hear your own voice
- being honest about what you want and trusting you'll figure it out
- being present - rather than focusing on the past or future
I shared in the episode:
“You can go from a state where it feels like life is happening to you to where you are able to start shaping it.”
That shift is where the magic happens.
Actionable Tips to Move From Doing to Being
- Ask yourself one honest question each day: What do I want right now?
- Choose one belief to reflect on (without judgement): Where did it come from? Does it still serve you? If not, what can you replace it with?
- Create a 5-minute morning ritual: Something simple, grounding, and doable.*
- Pick one area of your life to take ownership of: Finances, health, boundaries, relationships, etc. Start with one area to avoid feeling overwhelmed.
- Let yourself want what you want: Desire is data. Don’t dismiss it, even if it doesn't make sense.
