Becoming Your Own Best Friend Through Real Self Care

Becoming Your Own Best Friend Through Real Self Care

Self care is often presented as massages, facials and spa days. While those things feel nice, they are not the full picture. Real self care is about honouring your emotional, mental and spiritual well-being. In this episode of the She Trusts Herself podcast, I talk about becoming your own best friend and caring for yourself in deeper ways.

Why Traditional Self Care Is Not Enough

When I first started my personal development journey, I focused on physical self care. It felt nice, but the feeling did not last. I realised I needed practices that supported my mind, emotions and inner world.

Self care is not just about relaxing. It is about supporting yourself so you can show up in your life with clarity and intention.

Creating Space For Your Mind To Breathe

One of the most powerful forms of self care is giving your mind space. Going for walks without your phone, sitting in silence or spending time in nature helps your brain process information and close mental tabs.

This creates clarity, calm and new ideas because your mind finally has room to think.

Movement As Self Care

Moving your body can also be a form of self care. Whether it is a workout, a walk or stretching, movement helps you feel connected to yourself and supports your physical and emotional well-being.

Self Trust As A Form Of Self Care

Honouring your own voice, needs and decisions is one of the most powerful ways to care for yourself. When you stop outsourcing your choices and start listening to your inner voice, you build self trust and confidence.

Actionable Tips For Real Self Care

  • Create quiet moments: Spend time without your phone or external stimuli. Give yourself space to process information, close brain tabs and not consume any extra information from the outside world.
  • Move your body: Choose movement that feels good and supports your energy.
  • Honour your needs: Rest when you need to, in a way that feels good for you.
  • Protect your time: Set boundaries around your time and energy so you can honour the commitments you make.
  • Do something you enjoy: Make space for hobbies, creativity or personal goals.
  • Build self trust: Ask yourself what you want before asking anyone else.
